Body Scrubs That Will Turn Your Shower into a Tropical Oasis

I really hate the winter. You have to put on all these layers of clothing just to walk a short distance outside to run errands. The hood of your coat refuses to stay on your head because the blustery wind is so unrelenting. Even though your snow boots have great traction, the snow is so slushy and slippery from icing over and not being sanded down enough that you almost slip multiple times and have to resort to shuffling as you cuss under your breath in frustration. To top it all off, your Seasonal Affective Disorder acts up from insufficient light due to the days being shorter. While I don’t have a cure for this mess, these are the body scrubs that you need in your shower to help conjure up memories of summer—a carefree, glorious, and innocent time that is full of possibilities and opportunities to read another page of that book and to sip that drink and enjoy that sunset a little longer.

Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Body Scrub, 7.8 ounces, $27.99 at Walmart
Ever had a funnel cake at the boardwalk or an amusement park? This smells exactly like that doughy, strawberry, and powdered sugar confection. The salted caramel note in it reminds me of Fisher’s popcorn. The floral notes of heliotrope and jasmine keep you from smelling entirely like candy.

Sunday Rain Mango and Coconut Body Scrub, 9.34 ounces, $16.95 at Anthropologie
Both the scent and color of this make you feel like it’s summer all year round—and the consistency is marvelous. Plus, the price is exquisite. Moreover, I’m all for anything that makes me feel like I’m back in Brazil, with my mom and our relatives, eating juicy and tasty mangoes while Antonio Carlos Jobim’s “The Girl from Ipanema” is playing in the background.

Milk and Honey Body Polish, No. 5 Lemon Vanilla, 7 ounces, $48 at Milk + Honey
The owner of this line, Alissa Bayer, definitely accomplished what she set out to do in creating this, which is to make you feel like you’ve just emerged from one of those high-end day spas. This scrub is heavenly. It smells like pound cake and it leaves your skin feeling satiny, soft, and smooth and ready for the beach. It actually leaves a magnificent sheen on your skin! It also lessens unattractive calluses on the hands and feet from working too hard.

Baja Zen Mermaid Body Buff Scrub, 14 ounces, $42.99 at Baja Zen
Don’t get bummed out if you can’t get to the beach right away. This is the next best thing. Just picture yourself dipping your toes in the sand while breathing in and out deeply as you use this scrub that basically smells like ocean air and water, sand, and Coppertone.

California Mango Exfoliating Scrub, 8.5 ounces, $16.99 at Mercari
My fiance was awesome enough to purchase this for me at Quiet Storm Surf Shop when we were vacationing in Ocean City, MD last summer. If you can get past the mango scent that can get annoyingly sweet at times and the grittiness of the formulation, you’ll notice that this exfoliating scrub does a great job of minimizing the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite.
