My Favorite Cozy, Musky Scents and Dupes

I purchased Bath & Body Works’ Sunrise Woods Body Wash online in October of 2023 and picked it up in the store at The Mall at Prince George’s. I’m crazy about this location. It’s actually my favorite Bath & Body Works in Maryland. It’s well-lit and the sales associates are very friendly, helpful, and attentive. They’re always quick to greet you with a smile and good eye contact. Moreover, they answer the phone very professionally. I’ll definitely be returning to sniff their testers and buy more great stuff.

Now, on to the scent. Sunrise Woods is basically a lighter and more feminine version of the brand’s old-school scent, Twilight Woods. Think of it as an eau de parfum, with the vanilla-like acorn scent being the creamy sandalwood note that Bath & Body Works lists is in this, whereas Twilight Woods is more of a masculine cologne, with the foresty pine scent being the cypress woods note that the brand mentions is in it. I also get a musky and sensual spa-like note in Sunrise Woods that is utterly intoxicating. This is definitely the cozy cashmere note that they state is in this. Actually, this note is so intoxicating that I couldn’t stop huffing the candle of it in the Bath & Body Works outlet store in Delaware in the late summer of 2021 when the scent launched. You can purchase the shower gel here: Bath & Body Works’ Sunrise Woods Body Wash, 10 oz, $18.69 at Mercari. Here is the purchasing information for the brand’s Twilight Woods body wash: Bath & Body Works’ Twilight Woods Shower Gel, 10 oz, $12.95 at ebay (aka evilbay).

While all of the scents are great in Mix Bar’s Scent Discovery Set, Cloud Musk No. 21 is my favorite. It is easily a dupe for Sunrise Woods. It starts out as a peppery light floral with notes of cardamom, tonka bean, iris, peony, and jasmine. As it moves through the scent, it gets more and more irresistible with the tonka bean emitting cozy, comforting, and sultry vibes that are very similar to the musky spa-like note that I previously mentioned is in Sunrise Woods. Moreover, I get an aquatic and clean scent from the cotton flower note that is akin to the lotus and ice notes in Versace’s Bright Crystal perfume. My only complaint is that all three scents—Sunrise Woods, Twilight Woods, and Cloud Musk No. 21—have little to no staying power. Therefore, I recommend layering Cloud Musk No. 21 liberally when you get out of the shower after using Sunrise Woods or Twilight Woods body wash. Here is the purchasing information for the discovery set: Mix Bar Scent Discovery Set, 0.05 oz each, 0.25 oz overall, $36.98 at Walmart.

Capri Blue’s Blue Jean Body Scrub is easily one of the best body scrubs out there. Not only is it a beautiful, shimmery nude color, but it’s also my favorite scent from the brand. Yes, it’ll remind you of your favorite, broken-in pair of blue jean shorts straight out of the dryer. The smell of fresh laundry and musk—they’re comfortable and familiar. I know. I can’t stop talking about the body scrub in the present tense even though it’s discontinued. It does provide me some solace that the scent is still available in the eau de parfum spray pen (which I own). You can purchase it here: Capri Blue Blue Jean Eau de Parfum, 0.34 oz, $32 at Capri Blue.

I cannot even begin to tell you how ecstatic I was when I received Linnea’s Lights’ Cashmere Nourishing Hand & Body Wash as one of my birthday gifts last December from my fiancĂ©. The light yellow color reminds me of the color of a white grapefruit. The pretty pearlescent shimmer is similar to the ones in Philosophy and Capri Blue’s body washes. The formulation, comprised of aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, jojoba, and amino acids, feels great on the skin. This scent is definitely a dupe for Capri Blue’s Blue Jean. The fresh and clean chamomile note in this is very much like the linen note in Blue Jean. Moreover, the warm and comfy amber woods note here resembles the musk in Blue Jean.

While I don’t normally get hung up on packaging, the Swedish touch here is very classy and sophisticated with the color of the glass bottle being a cross between dark brown and smoky topaz. The white wrapround label with the silver gleam bars on the top and bottom and the mainly black uppercased old-style font that is very similar to a Baskerville Old Face or Bell Monotype typeface finishes off this oh-so elegant design.

The only drawbacks? While the bottle is very beautiful, I got scared that my klutzy self would drop it in the shower, especially in light of the pump dispenser not working to the point where you have to unscrew it and clunkily dump uncontrolled amounts of the body wash into your hand. Not cool. Not cool at all. You guys know how I feel about my shower time. This is the time to wash away your worries and concerns of the day—not add to them—and this body wash does exactly that. Finally, there’s a stinkweed smell from the patchouli note gone wrong in this. While it is more on the faint side, especially as it moves through the scent, it is an annoying one that enjoys making its presence known as it appears and reappears. Finally, don’t even get me started on the price. The cheapest you can get it is at around $52. If you, like me, don’t make a lot of money, you may want to ask for it as a gift. Here is the purchasing information for it: Linnea’s Lights’ Cashmere Nourishing Hand & Body Wash, 16.9 oz, $52.26 at The Rustic Market.
